Modern Tree House Living

Here’s a secret: Of the 12 near-identical apartments in our building, 4C is ever so slightly, objectively the best. Sorry other units, but it’s my duty to make the buyer aware.

East facing window

East facing window

First consider the benefits of the 4th floor. It’s the highest in the building excluding the penthouse. CITY VIEWS: Only the 4th floor has this. The bed, the couch, the balcony all impress in this way. 2. Easiest starecase access to the roof. It matters. The roof just feels a little more like it’s yours. Why do you need the stairs when the elevator takes you right there? Because, darting down for more ice shouldn’t involve standing and waiting. 3. Some of the units in this building have east facing side windows, and some have balconies. Ours is the only one that has both. Can one little east facing window make your life better? It has for us!

Our apartment has thousands of dollars of home automation installed to be included or not, on buyers discretion. App/Voice controlled Heating/Cooling, Front door, curtains, projector screen and 13 color adjustable lights to name some.

There are many ways to use your 607 sq feet, and there is little likelihood that you’ll find ours the most desirable. For us, packing as much fun and functionality has been our apartment sized math equation. Which is why its important to view the clean and modern apt designs of my identical neighbors.

However, if you’re wondering if its possible to fit his and hers office areas, a full size dining table, seating to support a party or emulate a theatre experience, we’re here to prove it so.

For the Living Room, it’s hard to avoid brokerisms because its just a fact, the high ceilings and windows make the modest footprint feel palatial, and in the summer, when the AC gushes onto you like a perfect customized cold shower you feel like there are millionaires in mansions that don’t have it as good. The double doors of the balcony open the wall up, to bring the outside in. Dinner parties flow into the living room seating. Two work spaces get daily milage from my wife, who works at home, and myself for video projects on occasion. It’s the customizability that makes our home feel constantly fresh, reinventable and larger than it is.

Bedroom

Yes, It’s smallish but don’t tell us that, our king size fits snuggly and we wouldn’t have it any other way. You get into bed guided by the glow of the surrounding city, and wake to the swaying trees like they’re an extension of the room Installing voice controlled curtains was a crucial addition so it would never be a chore to open up to the world.

As a profoundly light sleeper, I was relieved to find out that the nights are suburban quiet, and the only audibility (after 10pm when Weatherup closes its backyard) to be discerned is the chirp of birds in the mornings.

Kitchen

The kitchen’s secret is packing in the storage space. With a tucked away step stool an additional row of storage is in reach, and can accommodate a few unessential kitchen items that don’t get used daily The kitchen straddles the worlds of open concept, and separated space. You can saddle up to the bar area and clack your laptop while conversing with a chef. Or living room and kitchen activity can remain independent, letting said chef zone into a podcast and the contents on the stove.

Bathroom

In the bathroom the star feature is the tub and shower.  What brokers refer to as a ‘soaking tub’ translates to a vessel for a true uncompromised lavish bath.   Big enough for a tall person to be comfortable, relaxed and well, fully soaked, It’s the kind of thing that makes someone who never thought about baths, invest in bath entertainment and become grateful your apartment can deliver it to you.  The shower and bath can accommodate more than just you

Since many people will say the apartment balcony ends up being forgotten about, here are all the ways we don’t forget about it:

It’s an alt work at home space, power equipped, room to arrange furniture and distant city views to unfocus the eyes.

With two people living here, it’s our de facto private room for phone calls or computer work when the other is home.  It’s privacy also serves when friends arrive.

It’s our evening bbq, or breakfast space. Especially during the first warm days of the year.

If you have a dog it becomes her playspace, even in the colder months

It’s my cool down space after a sweaty bike ride when it would be impolite to blast the AC.

Evenings alone that would have mostly consisted of playing with my phone quietly on my couch, feel a little more satisfying playing with my phone on the outdoor couches.

Decorating it with lights gives a warm glow to the apartment from the outside.

And when you have a party it gets love.   Opening the double doors is like taking the living room outside.
